MB&F's Unveils 'Guardian', a Wristwatch Crafted From Childhood Fantasy and Robot-Themed Horology

MB&F continues to marry watchmaking with science fiction, unveiling its latest masterpiece, the HM12 'The Guardian', a delightful blend of nostalgia, innovation, and haute horology.

Exploring the intersection between the limitless imagination of childhood and the precision of watchmaking, MB&F has a history of creating watch designs that are nothing short of revolutionary. Drawing inspiration from spaceships, supercars, aircraft, and robots, these complex mechanical creations have consistently captured the hearts of watch enthusiasts. Since the brand’s inception in 2007, it has transformed the age-old art of watchmaking into a playground for the audacious, turning fantastical concepts into horological reality.

The HM12 is significant for another reason—it represents the first horological machine conceived entirely by Maximilian Büsser and Maximilian Maertens, marking a new era of collaboration that honours the brand’s past while embracing innovative approaches to horology.

The development of the HM12 took more than four years, gradually becoming one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the brand. The concept was deceptively simple – ‘what if a robot’s head were a watch?’ Instead of creating a watch inspired by a robot, MB&F created a robot whose ‘head’ is a fully functioning watch, with display elements arranged to resemble a face. As a result, the HM12 is not just a watch, but a visual narrative, telling a story of innovation, precision, and the magic of horology.
