Jérôme Marcu, a respected horologist well-known in the industry, has recently debuted his personal project - the Marcu Initial. Despite his impressive pedigree, this is the first timepiece that proudly carries his name. Marcu hails from a family recognized for creating automata and musical instruments and has since honed his craft at prestigious watch houses such as Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Roth & Genta, and Bovet. The creation of the Marcu Initial is not only a culmination of his career in watchmaking but also a reflection of his artistic heritage.

The watch’s hands tipped with triangle-cut diamonds give the Marcu Initial a characteristic appeal. With a visible effort at precision, the 1.4 mm high diamond-set hands cause a sizeable departure from the traditional 0.2 mm thick hands, requiring the fitting of a black polished steel counterweight in the exact opposition to keep the gravity’s effect neutral and ensure consistent timekeeping.

Where the Marcu Initial’s front pleases with its aesthetic charm, its back doesn’t disappoint in displaying Marcu’s technical prowess. The exhibition case back reveals an elaborate 37mm mechanism that showcases its symmetrical architecture, reflecting Marcu’s approach towards harmony in design and functionality. The components of this movement, aligned on the vertical axis, are held in place by four bridges, each serving a unique purpose, resulting in a technical marvel perfectly embodying Marcu’s commitment to timekeeping excellence.
