A. Lange & Söhne Reinvents Tradition with the Compact 1815 Up/Down Limited Edition Watches

With a nod to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, A. Lange & Söhne unveils the 1815 Up/Down Limited Editions, captivating the admirer with the perfect blend of historical legacy and modern engineering. Two new models have emerged in 37.5mm pink or white gold, offering an innovative reinterpretation of traditional clock design principles, limited to 300 pieces each. The power reserve indicator, a mark of sophisticated craftsmanship, draws inspiration from a patent granted to the brand in 1879 for a winding-recognising device in pocket watches.

Apart from their sensibly-sized case, the 1815 limited editions display a distinct character of reserved Saxon elegance. The refined blue dials with the signature recessed centre beautifully complement the lustrous concave bezel. The power reserve plays centrality and is portrayed on a silvery, snailed sub-dial at 8 o’clock, delineating itself with black Arabic numbering and a blued-steel hand. The power reserve counter is symmetrically balanced by the small seconds display on the right.

The watch pays a homage to Lange’s historical pocket watches with the Arabic numerals featured against the dark blue dial. Inside the watch, the manual-winding L051.2 evokes traces of yesteryears’ pocket watches by design but enhanced with modern craftwork, embracing remarkable features evidenced by German silver three-quarter plate and seven gold chatons secured by blued screws. The balance cock is hand-engraved and exhibits exquisite Glashütte ribbing. With a movement speed of 21,600vph and a 72-hour power reserve, the Limited Edition 1815 Up/Down timepiece is a testament to A. Lange & Söhne’s commitment to interweaving tradition with innovation.
