Seiko’s Creative Turn: The Power Design Project Collection 2 ‘Panda Dial’ Timepieces

Published: 09 Oct 2026
The iconic watchmaker Seiko once again showcases its innovative spirit with the introduction of its limited-edition 'Panda Dial' watches, a part of its Power Design Project Collection 2.

Marking its unwavering commitment to innovation, Seiko has launched two limited-edition Panda-dial watches as part of its Power Design Project Collection 2. This venture, which was first introduced in 2001, emboldens the brand’s creators to reimagine watch design in an unconventional and inventive light. The Power Design Project has seen a myriad of whimsical concepts brought to life, none more so representative than a chronograph timepiece, designed for avid panda lovers.

Although most creations from this project do not reach the commercial market, Seiko has announced the release of two new limited-edition models that are set to break this trend in 2026. The models, HHK001 and HHK002, are the embodiment of a design concept from the 2024 Specialized Watch Exhibition, inspired by a panda’s unique features.

As an ode to the bamboo diet of the panda, Seiko has renamed the tachymeter scale surrounding the dials as ‘Sasameter,’ referring to ‘sasa’- the Japanese term for bamboo. Both models operate on the brand’s proprietary 8T61 quartz movement, promising impressive utility coupled with an exceptional battery life of nearly three years.

Differently from the 2024 concept, the commercial models now have a simple smile under their printed noses while featuring white markings within their eyes, enhancing visibility. Each new model will be produced in limited numbers, with 3,000 units of HHK001 and 2,000 of HHK002, creating an unprecedented sense of exclusivity.
