Czapek Reveals Dress Watch Inspired by Boris Vian's Novel, 'Froth on the Daydream'

Evolving the craft of watch design, Czapek has unveiled a remarkable addition to their Promenade collection. The sublime ‘Promenade L’Écume des Jours’ masterfully blends art and craftsmanship. It pays tribute to ‘Froth on the Daydream’, a classic 1947 novel by renowned French author, Boris Vian. The watch presents a seamless blend of horology and literary influences. The Grand Feu enamel dial features the brand’s signature waterdrop design, set against a mesmerizing blue background inspired by the tranquil effect of a droplet disturbing the calm surface of water. Other seeds of Vian’s novel are sown in the form of artistic features that reiterate two of the most remarkable narratives from the book. These include a custom-made cocktail maker ‘pianocktail’ and a water lily depiction symbolizing a poignant illness. Further delving into its treasures, the dial showcases a beautifully crafted water lily at the center. Created by MD’Art, a specialist in métiers d’art dials, this lily is nestled on a jade base designed to resemble a floating leaf. Dancing to the tune of passing seconds, the lily is a charming feature that mesmerizes the viewer. Another tribute to the novel is the ‘pianocktail’. The piano keyboard encircling the dial is intricately portrayed, laser-created recess filled with a white mother-of-pearl ring to depict the white keys, graced with hand-painted black keys. The elegant timepiece sports a compact, polished steel case with dimensions shared by its Promenade family kin. Guarded by a domed sapphire crystal, the dial is complemented by a caseback flaunting another sapphire window to view the in-house automatic calibre SXH5.1. Czapek’s robust in-house movement houses a platinum micro-rotor, ensuring a power reserve of 60 hours. ‘L’Écume des Jours’ is a limited edition release, restricted to only 18 pieces.
