Celebratory Turquoise-Blue Tefnut 36 by Moritz Grossmann Unveiled
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Carl Moritz Grossmann, one of the key pioneering figures in Germany’s watchmaking industry. In homage to Grossmann—who played a critical role in the rise of Glashütte as a horological centre of excellence—Moritz Grossmann has released another timepiece. Following the releases of the Hamatic, Tremblage, original Tefnut, and the Backpage Tremblage, the brand has now chosen a model from the refined Tefnut dress watch collection. Synergising the past with the present, the new Tefnut 36 Silver-Plated by Friction Turquoise Blue is forged in a smaller 36mm case, complemented by a dial crafted using the traditional art of silver-plating by friction and enhanced with striking turquoise accents.
The Tefnut watch line, identified by its slim profile, exemplifies subtle elegance. The Anniversary Tefnut is no exception—it possesses a delicate 36mm frame and a slim height of 8.5mm, polished thoroughly with easy-to-grip lugs and a large winding crown. The silver-plating by friction—a difficult 19th-century technique—leaves a soft, matte texture on the watch. Before undergoing silver-plating, the Roman numerals are engraved onto a brass base, filled with turquoise lacquer, and baked at high temperatures. The dial is finally coated with a thin layer of lacquer to protect it from tarnishing, culminating with the application of the razor-sharp, hand-made steel hands.
