In the realm of independent watchmaking, the Ceon Watch Co. has presented an extraordinary surprise. Going against the typical associations with Brazil such as Carnival, Samba, football and the Amazon, this Curitiba-based brand unveils the GR-01. A creation driven by founder Ricardo A. Gracioli, the GR-01 is a unique, ultra-thin integrated watch that positions Brazil in the higher-end mechanical watch manufacturing arena.

The making of the GR-01 commenced more than four years ago, and it vividly marks Gracioli’s engineering expertise. Influenced by the integrated-sports-watch genre, the GR-01 exhibits slender proportions encapsulated in a clean, industrial design. The minimalist, 6mm thick watch with a diameter of 38mm and a lug-to-lug length of 44mm showcases broad flat surfaces, tailor-made from VC-150. This Brazilian martensitic tool steel, originally used in steam turbine blades, has undergone heat treatment to bestow strength needed for the remarkably slim watch construction.

Beyond aesthetics, the watch showcases the brand’s practical wisdom. The mirror-polishing process caters to the practical need of preventing rust accumulation by eliminating pitting points. Finally, applying a chemical process forms a protective chromium oxide layer on each part, raising eyebrows for the sheer technical marvel the Ceon GR-01 truly is.
