Detailing the Release of Seiko’s Edo Purple Limited Edition Watches: A Tribute to 145 Years of Horology
Established 145 years ago in Tokyo’s Ginza district, Seiko has since become an iconic player in the horology field. To celebrate their anniversary and pay tribute to the city that cradled its growth, the company has unveiled a line of limited edition watches: the Alpinist HBC006, Presage Cocktail Time HCB006 and Seiko 5 Sports SKX HDB003. These models exude a notable characteristic, adorning the traditional Tokyo-inspired ‘Edo Purple’. This color, originating from the Edo period (1603 to 1868), encapsulates the distinctive character of Edo and has been held dearly till present day.
The HBC006 stands out even more with a sunray-brushed, light purple dial complimented with the brand’s classic wedge-shaped indexes and Arabic numerals along with gold-colored touches on the Seiko logo and seconds hands. Powering this watch is an in-house calibre 6R55 automatic movement, a three-day power reserve, and a black, crocodile-patterned leather strap with purple stitching. As a nod to its selectability, only 7,000 pieces of this variety are available globally, setting the price at EUR 980.
