Dare to be Different: The Square by Square Prototype Unveils a Rare Facet of Timeless Hanhart Design

The Square by Square Prototype is an audacious step away from the signature designs from the renowned German watchmaker, Hanhart. Born out of a fruitful collaboration with Marcus Wiedemann, a celebrated designer from Munich’s Studio Supercreative, this proposed new design boldly reinterprets historical archive models.

Not merely a vintage revival, the Square by Square maintains its own identity by seamlessly merging geometric surfaces with subtly curved lines. The original watch case wields a compelling appeal, designed to perfectly suit a variety of wrist sizes. The meticulously crafted stainless steel case, measuring 40mm from 12 to 6 o’clock, showcases its distinctive profile that tapers towards the integrated lugs. Additionally, consumers are given a choice between a polished finis or a sandblasted matte finish, adding a personalised finish to their timepiece.

In line with the exterior, the dial too offers two enticing options - a deep blue sunburst finish or a shimmering mother-of-pearl essence. The dial boasts skillfully crafted numerals and indices that add a unique character to this experimental model, indicative of the proficient craftsmanship of Hanhart.

The timepiece is mechanistically powered by the no-date Sellita SW1000-1 b, a slim, automatic movement. The movement, derived from the SW100 family, is known for its precision and efficiency, aligning with Hanhart’s high in-house standards.

The Square by Square Prototype positions itself as an exciting innovation, with the production of only six prototypes. Their release is a testament to Hanhart’s timeless expertise in watch-making and its commitment toward reimagining the future of horological design.
