Mido Unveils Eye-Catching Abyss Blue Variant of the Popuar Ocean Star 39

Published: 12 Jun 2026
Mido infuses its celebrated Ocean Star 39 collection with an invigorating splash of color through the new Abyss Blue model.

The Mido Ocean Star 39 Abyss Blue opens a new chapter in the history of the long-standing Ocean Star series, dating back to the 1940s. This latest member of the Mido family presents a successful blend of modern design with solid diving functionality. Its slim profile and mess-free dimensions make it a dedicated modern rendition of the iconic Ocean Star collection. Simply put, it’s a tribute to the seas, rendered in the colors of the deep. The Ocean Star 39 preserves a stainless steel housing measuring 39mm in diameter coupled with a leg-to-leg length of 46mm, ensuring a comfortable feel. It sports a multi-faceted appeal, thanks to the combination of satin-brushed surfaces and polished embellishments. This lends the timepiece a go-anywhere capability — seamlessly transitioning from casual daily wear to energetic outings. A blue aluminum ring with a unidirectional rotating bezel together with silver-colored markings bring a lively touch of the seas to the wrist, with a white Super-LumiNova dot at 12. The screw-down crown and a solid case back decorated with the distinctive starfish motif reaffirm the watch’s diving roots, guaranteeing water resistance up to 200m. Beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass lies the star of the show, the dial, now graced with a deep abyss blue hue. It showcases the same embossed wave-like pattern that first marked the original Ocean Star 39, reinforcing the sea-inspired theme. Luminescent elements on the applied indices, triangles, dots, and faceted hands ensure low-light visibility, while a discreet date window is tucked away at 3 o’clock. The Ocean Star 39 Abyss Blue is powered by Mido’s automatic Calibre 72 based on ETA’s A31.111. Apart from the thinner profile provided by the movement, its standout features include a substantial 72-hour power reserve and increased resistance to magnetism and shocks provided by the Nivachron balance spring. The movement showcases decorative finishing, including Côtes de Genève pattern on the rotor. Mido also provides two strap options - a stainless steel bracelet with a diver’s extension and a blue rubber strap - enhancing versatility. As such, the Mido Ocean Star 39 Abyss Blue stands as a compelling proposition within the realm of luxury sports watches.
