The Evolution of Elegance: A Dive into the Modern Redesign of the Oris Artelier Date 38mm
While Oris is renowned for its dive and pilot watches, it also boasts an elegant line of dress watches. Among them is the Artelier Date, a classic time-and-date model that has recently been selected for a dramatic update. Reimagined with a sleeker design, the Oris Artelier Date watches have evolved with the aim of appealing to a younger audience.
The creative force behind the redesign, the proficient 24-year-old product design engineer Lena Huwiler, has lent an urban contemporary personality to the iconic timepieces. The new models feature a robust Swiss automatic movement and have moved into a more compact territory with their 38mm size. A comprehensive revamp of the previous Artelier Date models is evident, with a striking transition from a 40mm to a versatile 38mm diameter. The watches now exhibit a slim profile of 10.9mm and a 44mm lug-to-lug, presenting a refined blend of style and comfort.
These timepieces come in three colours – dark blue, white, and chocolate black. The dial carries an attractive stamped pattern at the centre, encapsulating the ongoing trend for textures. Marking the hour points are newly designed indices that touch the central medallion, boasting faceted and polished, wedge-shaped profiles. The hour and minute hands match the shape of the index tips and hold a strip of luminescent material, therefore, heightening the timepiece’s functionality.
Accompanied by a date window placed harmoniously at the 6 o’clock position, the Artelier Date also highlights a visible automatic Oris 733 mechanism through the mineral glass caseback. It operates at a 4Hz frequency and provides a 41-hour power reserve.
The refreshed model presents two strap options – a dark brown leather strap featuring a butterfly clasp or a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. Though they lack an interchangeable or quick-release feature, there’s potential for Oris to upgrade future collection models with a tool-free quick strap change system.
With a retail price of CHF 1,750 for leather strap models and CHF 1,950 for those with a steel bracelet, the Artelier Date 38mm redesign offers an appealing fusion of classic elegance and modern flair.
