Cartier's Revival of the Roadster Series: A New Era of Sleek Sophistication

Published: 24 Apr 2026
Astoundingly, Cartier has rejuvenated the Roadster watch series, bringing a fresh iteration that instills modern refinement into the classic line.

Cartier, in2026, is positioned comfortably at the apex of the horological world, relishing a distinct popularity among modern collectors, and cherishing a legacy enriched with strong brand images. As 2000s-era nostalgia decidedly colours the present culture, Cartier capitalises on this untapped heritage. Thus, the iconic Cartier Roadster, missing since its first display from 2002 to 2012, has made a triumphant return as part of Cartier’s Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026 novelties. While its predecessor was a fast-paced nod to the ’50s automotive Americana, this new generation of Roadsters blends the charm of the 2000s quirkiness with modern upscale sophistication, creating a sports watch staple within Cartier’s illustrious lineup.

The all-new Cartier Roadster hit the ground running by presenting two sizes, a medium sized 34.9mm wide, 42.5mm lug-to-lug variant and a larger 38mm wide, 47mm lug-to-lug variant. The cases are also available in diverse materials such as stainless steel, 18K yellow gold, and a mix of steel and gold. The new Roadster undoubtedly bears resemblance to the original yet has evolved with a more streamlined, ergonomic profile.

Interestingly, Cartier has opted for simplicity by replacing the original roadster’s unique 1957 Corvette taillight-reminiscent recessed lug screws with a flowing design that aligns itself with the popular integrated-sports-watch design trend. This is a clear departure from the ‘50s American automobile motifs that defined the first roadster. However, the trade-off is a signature design element that evokes the essence of a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado taillight. It seamlessly extends from the date magnifier at 3 o’clock to the ornate, oversized crown, encapsulating the classic charm of the Roadster.

The new Roadster’s ergonomic design ensures that the timepiece sits comfortably on the wrist, appearing slimmer and more refined than its predecessor. The subtle ensemble of changes that Cartier has made embodies a combination of nostalgia and modernity, breathing new life into the iconic Roadster watch series and affirming the marque’s commitment to envelope-pushing design and enduring quality.
