Vacheron Constantin Pays Homage to Profound Civilizations with New Métiers d’Art Watch Series
Since 2019, Vacheron Constantin has maintained a partnership with the Louvre, aiding in the conservation and preservation of its celebrated antiquities. Occasionally, this partnership extends into horological territory, with the iconic watch brand honoring the museum’s art through its timepieces. The first series of the Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Tribute to Great Civilisations was unveiled in 2022, featuring designs inspired by notable Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Persian artworks. The latest series continues this celebration, saluting the above civilizations in addition to the Assyrian Empire, replacing Persia.
Powered by the in-house Calibre 2460 G4 automatic movement, the watches display time via four discs, with each set in a corner, allowing maximal space for the dial’s design. The cases are made from white or pink gold, while the rotors, cast in 916/1000 gold, showcase sophisticated engravings of the Louvre’s eastern façade. Translating ancient sculptures onto an 18-karat gold watch dial required sourcing similar materials and stones. Aided by 3D modeling, the artistic team determined ideal angles and proportions to maximize light capture. Regardless of complexity, each dial required 120 to 220 working hours to perfect.
