The origin of the Star traces back to when Oris dared to challenge the Swiss Watch Statute. The statute stifled innovation by restricting the use of pin-lever escapements. Oris, unfazed, employed a legal expert to overturn the law, accomplishing the feat in 1965. As a monumental breakthrough, the Oris Star was born, a year later – their very first in-house lever escapement watch.
