Marking 200 Years, Moritz Grossmann Releases Two New Variants of the Elegant Backpage Tremblage

Moritz Grossmann pays tribute to its 200-year legacy by unveiling two variants of its intricate Backpage Tremblage timepieces.

Camouflaging tradition under the façade of contemporary design, Moritz Grossmann ushers in its 200th year with two resplendent Backpage Tremblage timepieces. The watches reflect the brand’s rich history intertwined with the esteemed legacy of watchmaking in Glashütte, a town synonymous with precision German horology. Founded by the eponymous Moritz Grossmann, the brand was resurrected in 2008 under the guidance of Christine Hutter, perpetuating the core values of the founder in creating watches that epitomise ‘Schönstes deutsches Handwerk’ - the ‘most beautiful German craftsmanship’.

To celebrate two centuries of watchmaking heritage, the brand has curated a series of special-edition watches. The latest to join this lineage are two Backpage Tremblage timepieces, offered in elegant shades of blue and violet. Both versions embody Moritz Grossmann’s exquisite movement finishes, an element that has acclaimed attention from collectors worldwide.

The anniversary editions are adorned with a chapter ring encircling the movement between 11 and 5 o’clock and a recessed small seconds ring at 6 o’clock, introduced in the new classy hues of violet and blue. The blue variant represents more traditional styling while the violet version offers a contemporary bold statement.

Adding an additional layer of craftsmanship, the watches exhibit tremblage engraving on the chapter ring. Derived from the French word ’tremblant’ for shaking or trembling, tremblage is an arduous exercise in decorative technique, mastered by very few artisans. The engravings are achieved by persistent and homogenous incisions on a German silver base - a process requiring uniform pressure application. If an engraving proves too deep, the dial deemed unusable. The mastery lies in attaining an evenly textured surface.

Both models showcase hand-finished touches, including an engraved balance cock at 11 o’clock, gold-plated gear wheels, moulded heat-annealed hands and polished bevels. Taken collectively, these features reaffirm Moritz Grossmann’s commitment to a tradition steeped in precision and aesthetic expertise.
