Monovant Unveils the Rheon Bronze with Smoked Dials: A Blend of Modernity and Greek Inspiration
Last year, Monovant beautifully showcased simplicity and robustness through their Rheon Royal Lapis watch. The watch’s deep blue lapis lazuli dial with a small diamond became a symbol of elegance without flamboyance. Drawing inspiration from Greek culture and mythology, these timepieces resonated with people who appreciate classic Swiss-powered wristwatches in distinctive tonneau-like cases. Building on this successful design, Monovant recently introduced the new Rheon Bronze, with two available versions each featuring a unique textured fumé dial.
Monovant didn’t stop at the dial, introducing subtle changes to other components. Most notably, the shape of the hands has been transformed from round to a sharper, more angular design. Those who appreciate a minimalist aesthetic will even spot the absence of the brand’s logo on the dial, intentionally removed by Monovant for a de-branded look. To balance the design, the brown dial effortlessly blends with the watch’s case, while the blue dial provides a striking contrast.
Retaining a comfortable size, the case of the Rheon Bronze stands at 40mm in diameter, 47mm lug-to-lug, and 9.6mm in thickness. Replacing steel, Monovant has opted for marine-grade bronze for the case, not only laudable for its strength and corrosion resistance, but also for attaining a warm gold-brown patina over time. Despite its semi-polished, more matte finish, the watch exudes an undeniable elegance. Completing the design, the grade-5 titanium caseback, intricately engraved with an owl holding an olive branch, lends a charming final touch exemplifying Monovant’s ode to their Greek roots.
