Rolex Stirs up the Watch World with an Exclusive Set of Four Fine-Crafted Daytonas for Charity Auction
The buzz in this year’s Watches & Wonders event revealed an unusual and exciting twist in Rolex’s strategy. The iconic watch brand debuted a set of Daytonas akin to the four seasons, each designed with precious metal and gem-set. Intriguingly, only one of each exists in the world. Rolex, a brand that generally leans towards a more uniform production, had stepped out of its comfort zone to create an exclusive set in association with their retailers. Unsurprisingly, the estimated retail price for the set was steep, around CHF 4 million. The striking watches, splendidly crafted with Platinum and lapis, Yellow gold and mookaite and chrysoprase, White gold and chrysoprase and lepidolite, and the Everose gold with turquoise and ruby, immediately captured enormous interest. Rumours circulated that more than a thousand potential buyers, including some well-known personalities, submitted their names for the prized possession. Even Rolex was taken aback by the overwhelming response, leaving them uncertain about the selection process. Now, the company has announced its decision to auction off these four unique Daytonas through a charity auction, the first initiative of its kind in Rolex’s history. The sale, planned for 28th September in London, will be in association with Phillips auction house. All proceeds from this auction will go towards two charities championed by Rolex’s favourite testimonials, Roger Federer’s Federer Foundation and Leonardo DiCaprio’s re:Wild. Hence, Rolex under the leadership of Mr Dufour continues to surprise, providing watch enthusiasts with a hint of unpredictability.
