Experience the Art and Craftsmanship of The GoS Völund Fullerö Sword: An Exceptional Timepiece Worthy of Vikings
Introducing the GoS Völund Fullerö Sword, an exceptional timepiece steeped in the legacy of Norse mythology and Viking masterwork. The name traces back to Völund, a heralded Norse blacksmith and the Fullerö Sword, an intricate Viking blade uncovered in Sweden in 1969. The finding, regarded as the most pristine Viking sword ever unearthed, became a talisman of exquisite pattern-welded or Damascus steel core craftsmanship. The independent watchmaker from the North, GoS Watches, specializing in integrating Damascus steel into their designs, set out to imbue the magic of the Fullerö Sword into a watch. Founded by Swedish horologist Patrik Sjögren, GoS Watches weaves Scandinavian folklore into their artistry, with the Damascus steel elements enhancing the beauty and intricate detail of their timepieces. Collaborating with master craftspeople such as bladesmith Conny Persson, GoS has carved a unique space in the horological landscape. So why Damascus steel? This technique, ancient in its origins, involves layering different types of steel to create stronger, more resilient blades. This elaborate process of hand-welding, drawing out, cutting, restacking, and forge-welding culminates in a technique that for each fold or cut, doubles the layer count, creating a signature pattern. The Fullerö Sword utilizes the same technique, where multi-layered rods are twisted and then forged to create the dial. The final piece, brought to life by Patrik, takes on various forms for GoS - be it a case, a dial, a crown, or other movement components. Further detailing is added through acid etching to expose the layers and the unique pattern, colour application through chemical or heat treatments creating an end-result that is truly awe-inspiring. The GoS Völund Fullerö Sword marries elements of Scandinavian folklore and Viking glory, evidenced in every aspect - the case style, bezel scrollwork, unique dial pattern, and hand shape. Despite the myriad of elements, the watch maintains a harmonious balance and originality. The 41.5mm by 11mm stainless steel case, with a Viking bracelet-inspired design and vertical grooved pattern on the caseband, is a testament to the brand’s dedication to exemplary artistry.
