Collective Horology Takes Trump Administrative Duties to Court, Alleging Unlawful Tariffs

Collective Horology, an independent watch retailer established in 2018, has taken aggressive action against President Trump and his administration. Among those targeted in this legal move are U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and several government departments, all accused of establishing and enforcing tariff duties that the retailer deems to be ‘unlawful’. The company has lodged a lawsuit with the United States Court of International Trade, arguing that these tariff duties lack the necessary congressional approval and are immensely harmful to American businesses, including their own.

According to Asher Rapkin, co-founder and CEO of Collective Horology, the company has paid over $160,000 in tariff duties enforced by the Trump White House and Trade Representative Greer. Despite a Supreme Court verdict in February revoking Trump’s right to impose his initial round of duties, the lawsuit claims the Trump administration has exploited alternative laws and methods to maintain the tariffs, with Collective Horology’s paid duties yet to be refunded. Collective Horology is braced to import watches worth around $69,000 in the upcoming weeks, which they estimate will result in tariff payments of approximately $8,280. The retailer’s legal battle is supported by the Liberty Justice Center, a non-profit litigator campaigning for values including economic freedom and free speech.
