Backed by Chanel, Swiss Watchmaking legend F.P. Journe Leads Consortium in 95% Share Acquisition of Ebel
Transforming waves are stirring in the luxury watch industry with the decision of Movado Group to let go a majority stake of 95% in the renowned Swiss watch brand Ebel. The purchaser consortium that lands this majority stake is spearheaded by Montres Journe SA, carrying the legacy of the watchmaking legend F.P. Journe, and is in partnership with the fashion powerhouse Chanel. The reins of Ebel will be handled by the former De Bethune CEO, Pierre Jacques.
There is a keen sense of anticipation building up around this move, as Ebel, founded in 1911 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, has been experiencing a relatively quiet existence under the auspices of Movado. The handover, it is conjectured, will serve to uplift the Ebel brand, fleshing out its product spectrum, enhancing the branding, streamlining distribution, and essentially boosting overall sales revenue.
