Rediscovering Timeless Elegance with Autodromo: The Mobil 1 Monoposto Edition Makes a Splash

The Monoposto, Autodromo's signature mechanical watch, awakens from dormancy with an exciting collaborative twist with Mobil 1 Racing Team.

The clock of innovation continues to tick in the world of horology. Autodromo, a brand well-known for its dedication in combining the elegance of vintage automobiles with contemporary timepiece technology, has decided to breathe new life into one of its maiden designs, the Monoposto, initially launched in 2012. The Monoposto, the brand’s first mechanical watch, was conceived from Autodromo founder Bradley Price’s deep-seated adoration for cars, and more specifically, the gauges on the single-seater Grand Prix cars from the 50s. Now, more than a decade since its genesis, the three-hand Monoposto is being reborn in collaboration with the Mobil 1 Racing Team. This limited-edition chronograph, dubiously dubbed as the Mobil 1 Edition Monoposto, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Mobil 1’s synthetic motor oil. The new version stays true to its roots while sporting numerous refinements. The 43mm diameter stainless steel case, initially perceived as slightly broad, has been slimmed down from 11.98mm to 10.8mm, thereby enhancing fit and comfort. One of the crucial upgrades in this version includes the replacement of the mineral crystal from the first edition with a much sturdier and high-quality sapphire – a welcome change considering the crystal’s size. Internally, the watch now houses a Miyota 9039 caliber instead of the former 821A movement. Perhaps the watch’s most exciting redesign is its new glossy white dial, revamped typography, and most importantly, the red Pegasus logo – a symbol of Mobil 1’s racing influence and brand identity. The Mobil 1 Edition Monoposto is limited to 150 pieces, with options available in stainless steel and gold-plated steel. With its exquisitely detailed construction and history-rich design, the revival of Monoposto exemplifies Autodromo’s commitment to craftsmanship and tradition in watchmaking.
