Albishorn Introduces Thundergraph Khumbu: An Imaginary Vintage Chronograph Honouring Alpine Exploration
Launching into the independent scenescape with imagination at its helm, Albishorn is capturing attention with its unique creations. Already known for the Maxigraph and Type 10, the brand’s latest offering is the magnificent Thundergraph Khumbu, a timepiece that merges design aspects of vintage chronographs with motifs of alpine exploration, sparking a sense of wonder for what might have been.
The Thundergraph Khumbu, conceived to celebrate the Swiss Everest expeditions in 1952, carries forward the earlier Thundergraph’s design in an evolved form, enriched by a captivating mint-green dial and option for a steel bracelet. The Thundergraph Khumbu’s case measures 39mm in diameter and 12mm in height, inclusive of the sapphire crystal. This preserves the signature Thundergraph aesthetic and reflects the design structure of their previous models.
The ‘California ghost’ mint-green dial, inspired by the Himalayan landscape, captivates with its Roman numerals, large luminous markers, pencil hands and unique chronograph layout. Its unconventional layout ensures clear visibility and pleasing symmetry across the lower half of the dial.
At the heart of the Thundergraph Khumbu lies the COSC-certified, hand-wound calibre ALB03 M, Albishorn’s proprietary, monopusher chronograph movement. Based on a modified Sellita SW510M Mp, with 28,800 vibrations/hour and a generous 65-hour power reserve, this movement propels both the unusual dial layout and crown position. The Khumbu is available with two leather strap designs, proffering a vintage style appeal. Its newly-introduced steel bracelet option with screwed links, presents a contemporary and versatile alternative.
Limited to 99 exclusive pieces, the Thundergraph Khumbu underscores a perfect balance of design innovation and horological history, offered at CHF 3,650 on leather strap and CHF 4,100 on steel bracelet, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to luxury and craft.
