Revamping the Quintessential: RZE Reimagines the Classic Pilot’s Watch with the Resolute Type A

In what proves to be an exciting release in 2026, RZE has masterfully reimagined and revitalised the Type A pilot’s watch. Birthed in 1940, the Type A dial was purpose-built for accuracy and legibility under the rigors of military aviation. Today, it is celebrated as a dial archetype in watchmaking, appreciated far beyond its original aviation context.

RZE’s Resolute Type A doesn’t merely reproduce tradition – it catapults it into the present day. The result is a uniquely modern interpretation of a familiar classic, making it ideal for daily wear. Known for their selection of surface-hardened titanium tool watches, RZE caters to adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts, offering a range of models from divers to everyday sports watches. But with RZE’s founder Travis Tan himself a commercial airline pilot, it’s not surprising to see the return of a pilot’s watch to the brand’s contemporary lineup, after its first model in 2021.

Technically an extension of RZE’s Resolute series, the Resolute Type A stands apart from its siblings like the Resolute Pro and Resolute 36. Not content to merely retrofit an existing model with a flight-inspired dial, RZE has overhauled the base of its three-handed pilot’s watch entirely. This timepiece then, though it shares an aesthetic family resemblance with RZE watches, is an innovative entity unto itself.

As with all RZE watches, the Resolute Type A’s case is crafted from high-quality grade 2 titanium, finished with the brand’s propriety UltraHex coating, resulting in incredible surface hardness. In contrast to other Resolute models, the entire exterior of the Resolute Type A is sandblasted to minimize reflections. Despite being inspired by the world of aviation, the Resolute Type A is also intended to serve as an everyday tool watch, and RZE has incorporated a screw-down crown to ensure a solid 100 meters of water resistance.
