Juha Eskola: The Rising Finnish Watchmaker Introduces the Revolutionary N2 Moonphase Timepiece
Emerging from the talented pool of Finnish School of Watchmaking graduates is Juha Eskola, who has been rapidly carving his name in the world of independent watch-making. Carrying forward the brilliance of his N2 timepiece, the Finnish watchmaker has now introduced its intriguing next step, rightfully named the N2 Moonphase. This new model does not only elaborates the expanding repertoire of Eskola’s skills but also provides a clear indicator of his constant growth and development as a watchmaker.
The N2 Moonphase serves as an advanced evolution from the original N2 launched in 2024, featuring the same case design. Available in either stainless steel or 14k yellow gold, it measures a modest 37mm in diameter and an ultra-slim 8.90mm in height. What catches the eye are the concave scallops in the caseband, exhibiting a hand-hammered finish, usually found on the insides of a watch. There is also a pleasing contrast between the onion-style crown and the sapphire crystal on either side of the case.
The dial of the N2 Moonphase offers up a balanced mix of styles. Comprising of a two-levelled ‘Tuxedo dial,’ the black centre sits a touch lower than the silver-white outer ring where the hour numerals reside. Further enhancing its elegance is the use of Breguet-style numerals either applied in gold or engraved and filled with black wax. The hands, made in-house using 14k gold, emulate a graceful figure.
Stealing the limelight, however, is a breathtaking double moon phase at six o’clock. This replaces the small seconds indication of the previous N2. Eye-capturing gold moons are set on a hand-hammered disc, demonstrating the true creative ingenuity of the marked independent watchmaker.
