Jiro Katayama, Tokyo's one-person watchmaking atelier, reveals another creation that marries the future with the industrial - the Otsuka Lotec No. 8.

Tokyo-based watchmaker Jiro Katayama has once again astonished the world of horology with his newest creation; the Otsuka Lotec No. 8. This timepiece is not only the epitome of Katayama’s talent and craftsmanship but also serves as a bold statement of originality in a market saturated with imitations. Breaking away from the familiar, Katayama’s innovative piece combines elements from retro cameras, vintage tools, and analog gauges reflecting the artistry and ingenuity typically associated with the former car and product designer. '

‘This timepiece uses a jumping hour complication on its main dial, adding a nostalgic touch with a sizable steel hand accentuated with a red dash in the center. Adjacent to that, a vertically-oriented steel retrograde minutes hand consistently climbs from zero to 60 minutes, snapping back to zero every hour. Taking the position at the top center of the dial is the discreet seconds disc, making a full rotation every 90 seconds instead of the customary 60 seconds. '

‘Under the hood, the Otsuka Lotec No. 8 is powered by an automatic Miyota caliber 90S5, fitted with an in-house 62-part module crafted by Katayama himself. The craftsmanship seen in both its internal and external features positions the Otsuka Lotec No. 8 as a striking testament to Katayama’s distinctive aesthetic vision and his dedication to his craft.
