Rising Star of Independent Watchmaking: Annelinde Dunselman and Her Debut Timepiece 'Black Tulip'

Published: 16 Feb 2026
Quietly casting shadows on the flashy world of watchmaking is Annelinde Dunselman, a storyteller of time, handcrafting refined elegance in her watch 'Black Tulip'.

In an era where watchmaking seems determined to be more flamboyant, with open-worked dials, robust balances and complex displays, there is one who stridently walks the opposite road, Annelinde Dunselman. This Dutch watchmaker operates from her workshop in the Netherlands, crafting timepieces that exude a delicate elegance. Her watches, far from the ostentatious offerings of some, celebrate understatement, patience, and attentiveness. Admittedly developing a fascination for watches in her early life, Annelinde elevated her curiosity to a life-long passion and profession, leaving her career as a social worker behind. Annelinde’s debut piece, the ‘Black Tulip’, embodies her principles of understated elegance. A 38.5mm steel case ensconces a multi-layered dial, manifesting a forward-thinking aesthetic, underscored by an exactitude of finishing. Broad lugs framing the face give an at-distance impression of sportiness, but the subtle hands and intricate dial textures reveal sophistication on closer inspection. Dunselman’s journey has encompassed time spent with eminent watchmakers and voluntary work at a family-run jeweller. With each step, she completed her understanding of the true alchemy involved in bringing a timepiece to life. After internships with Jaeger-LeCoultre and Philippe Narbel, her longest and most formative spell was spent with Grönefeld. There, she imbibed a deeply dedicated connection with her craft, a magic that she now interacts with to shape her illustrious creations. Thus, in celebrating her work, we also celebrate the noble chronicles of watchmaking, the stories that wind to eternity on the wrist, and the ones yet to unfold.
