Urwerk's Newest Revelation: UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic, A Timepiece Navigated by the Velocity of Light

Published: 04 Feb 2026
Urwerk takes horology to the celestial level with its latest creation, the UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic, that measures time by the speed of light.

Rapidly evolving the horological landscape, Urwerk transcends traditional watchmaking with its celestial-inspired, the UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic watch. Known for their creative dexterity and mechanical innovation, Urwerk’s founders, Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner, continue to reimagine timekeeping through a cosmic lens. Their design philosophy doesn’t just measure hours and minutes; it aims to create a symbolic interface between humankind and the cosmic universe. This unique perspective was previously manifested in the UR-100 SpaceTime of 2019 and now evolves into the UR-100V, returning to Earth in a dazzling white ceramic composite case.

Urwerk’s masterful depiction of the fastest achievable velocity in the universe astounds; it precisely illustrates the exact time needed for light to travel from the Sun to each planet. For example, sunlight reaches Mercury in 3.2 minutes, Earth in 8.3 minutes, and even Neptune in 4.1 hours. The timepiece’s black, openworked structure hovering over the wandering hours mechanism beautifully presents this. It’s not a static representation either; there’s a small blue and green hand connected to one of the carousel arms that charts the planet’s path and completes a full rotation around the dial every three hours.

With this edition, Urwerk introduces a white ceramic case built from a special composite ceramic material measuring 43mm across, 51.73mm long and 14.55mm thick. The UR-100V LightSpeed Ceramic watch, from its cosmic conception to its groundbreaking mechanics, ultimately celebrates Urwerk’s space-inspired vision, pioneering spirit and relentless creativity.
