De Bethune Helps Louis Vuitton Elevate Horology: An 18th Century Marvel Resurrected through the Louis Varius Project

Published: 02 Feb 2026
In a collaborative fusion of horology expertise, Louis Vuitton and De Bethune create a modern interpretation of the 18th-century Sympathetic Clock, setting a new benchmark in timepiece innovation.

As part of a series of collaborations with independent watchmakers, Louis Vuitton unveils its novel project with De Bethune – the LVDB-03 Louis Varius. This unique endeavor features two components: a wristwatch and a rare modern interpretation of the 18th-century Sympathique Clock, the first of its kind since 1991.

Co-created with Master Watchmaker Denis Flageollet of De Bethune, the Louis Varius Project stands as a unique testament to horological innovation. This blend of heritage and innovation sees a Tambour-cased wristwatch, the DB25 GMT, and a Sympathique Clock in an unexpected collaborative dynamic.

Beyond its visual identity, the crown merges visual appeal with functionality by serving as the connection point to the Sympathique system.

However, the true marvel lies in the Sympathique Clock. The reintroduction of this 18th-century rarity propels the entire concept to a new level. As we delve into the specifics of this creation, we realize that Louis Vuitton and De Bethune have not only resurrected an antique masterpiece but redefined the boundaries and possibilities in the world of horology.
