Raymond Weil Redefines Dress Watch Fashion & Fun with its New Toccata Heritage Edition
Under the visionary leadership of third-generation CEO Elie Bernheim, Raymond Weil is transforming the landscape of the watch world. From a foundation of well-respected, conventionally designed models in the classic series, this Geneva-based team takes a fresh plung—an endeavour, that started with the retro-styled MiIllesime of 2024 and has now culminated in a remarkable revamp of the Toccata Heritage collection, adding a much-needed dose of humor to the often rigid world of dress watches. The collaboration with seconde/seconde and its creator, Romaric André, has breathed new life into the Toccata Heritage dress watch, which sits snugly in a slim, elegant elliptical case. The new model, fitting for both men and women, features a creatively divided dial with two distinct finishes, and messages and markers that add a fun twist to the serious rules of dress watch etiquette. The left half of the dial sports a matte grey surface, boldly reminding wearers that a ‘Dress Shirt Cuff Should Cover at Least Half of the Watch’, while the right half, in a glossy sunray finish, identifies other potential cuff positions for less formal occasions. This clever addition opens dialogues on how a dress watch should be worn, injecting playful debates among purists. The watch also charms with other whimsical features such as the ‘Swiss Made’ inscription playfully placed on either side of the index at three o’clock, and the minute markers that fade into grey as they blend with the darker left side of the dial. To round off the fun, the closed case back offers sassy advice: ‘Never wind your watch while wearing it. Take it off first, then wind it in a dramatic fashion (ideally in the middle of a conversation).’ The partnership of Raymond Weil and seconde/seconde provides an engaging departure from traditional dress watch aesthetics. This experiment not only reimagines the traditions linked with dress watches, but also connects with a new generation of wearers who appreciate a touch of humor and quirky design within the world of horology.
