Certina Unveils Upgraded DS Action Diver 38mm Powermatic 80 with Ceramic Bezel
Swiss watch manufacturer Certina has revised its renowned DS Action Diver 38mm Powermatic 80 timepiece with a slew of new references. Known for their commitment to affordability without compromising on quality, Certina’s updated offering is a testament to their balancing act of price and performance. The launch introduces a ceramic bezel insert, replacing the former aluminum model and promising superior resistance to scratches. However, fans of the aluminum insert aesthetic can still opt for the older references.
Interestingly, despite the case, power reserve, and 80.611 Powermatic 80 movement remaining identical to the preceding model, Certina’s newer creation stipulates a thickness of 13.22 mm, slightly more than the older versions. The reason for this increase remains obscure, possibly associated with the thickness of the sapphire crystal.
The watch is equipped with an array of practical features designed for divers: a ridged bezel, a screw-down crown, a solid screw-in caseback with an engraved turtle symbol, and 0-60 dive bezel graduations. The bracelet can be adjusted to fit over a wetsuit, thanks to a divers’ extension, and sports quick-release spring bars. Presented in five fresh variations, the new references include 316L stainless steel models in green, black, and two-toned styles, as well as black PVD-coated stainless steel and titanium options.
The new DS Action Diver perfectly embodies Certina’s ethos of delivering top-tier functionality and design at a competitive price point. With prices starting at approximately $990, these new models continue to reinforce Certina’s position in the market as a leviathan of affordable luxury timepieces.
