Haim Watch Company Steps Forward with a Unique Microbrand Miracle: The Annum Annual Calendar
When it comes to consistency and value for money, microbrand watches usually tick all the boxes. However, these timepieces hardly ever venture beyond the capabilities dictated by big-name movement suppliers. That’s about to change, thanks to the Chicago-based Haim Watch Company. To mark its fifth anniversary, Haim steps onto center stage with the release of the Annum, its most intricate piece yet.
The Annum takes a bold stance amidst the microbrand watches, being one of the few equipped with an annual calendar movement. Elbowing out preceding models like the Legacy Chronograph and the Viajero Worldtimer, the Annum scoops the title of Haim’s most sophisticated watch.
The annual calendar, akin to a perpetual calendar, adjusts itself to account for varying days each month. However, it does struggle with the leap year phenomenon and requires reset annually - typically on March 1st.
Fine aesthetic ornamentation marks the Caliber HWC-2 automatic movement. Geneva stripes grace its upper plates, with splashes of meticulously-placed blued screws and gold filigree. A transparent disc attached to the gold-plated tungsten weight creates a sense of an orbiting rotor, filling the watch with illusions and unimpeded views.
The Annum holds this exceptional movement in a sturdy brushed and polished stainless steel case, measuring an appealing 38mm in diameter. A flat sapphire crystal with five layers of anti-reflective treatment tops off the design, while a modest water resistance of 30 meters will reassure the user against incidental contact with water. Delivering style, functionality, and innovation, the Annum is truly Haim’s masterstroke, pushing the boundaries of microbrand horology.
