Unleashing the Beast: A Personal Insight into the Daily Drive of the New Porsche 911 GT3
Many dream of getting behind the wheel of the mighty Porsche 911 GT3, and for good reason. As a naturally aspirated variant of the famed 911, it’s revered for its sheer power, magnificent driving capabilities, and the unmatched thrill it offers. One particular driver, after years of daily commuting in a 911 Carrera S, was given the opportunity to experience the latest members in the 911 family. The more recent models, from the wild 911 Dakar to the exquisite 992.2 Carrera, and later, in the company of the 992.2 GTS and T, have all been a part of his journey.
His mission was to compare the GT3 to his own 2006 911 Carrera S as a daily drive. His son didn’t mind the switch at all, thrilled to be driven to school in a louder, more visually remarkable vehicle. However, he admits he might have preferred a slightly more discreet version minus the massive rear wing, like the GT3 Touring.
He recounts that from the very first moment, he could feel the new 992.2 GT3’s overwhelming hunger for speed. It begged him to press the accelerator to the floor, responding like a spirited young puppy, bolting ahead at the slightest touch of the pedal. Despite embodying an entirely different beast to his 997.1, there was an uncanny resemblance between them. What he loved most about his 997.1 was the naturally aspirated 3.8 liter flat six engine, the ‘analog’ driving experience courtesy of the hydraulic steering, and the raw sound - qualities he found echoed in the new 992.2 T and hence its secure place on his wish list. It seemed to be a ‘proper driver’s car’, just like his favourite 997.1 but even more modern, faster, and more precise.
