Unveiling the New Masterpiece of the Watchmaking World: The Voutilainen KV20i Reversed CS

Kari Voutilainen is a globally venerated figure, widely recognised as one of today’s most outstanding independent watchmakers. Operating from his atelier in Môtiers, Switzerland, this master horologist creates some of the most enriched and sought-after timepieces, attracting aficionados from across the globe with his blend of clockwork complexity and fine detailing. The latest marvel to grace the horological panorama is the Voutilainen KV20i Reversed CS. This unique timepiece features an inventive inverted in-house calibre nestled within a cushion-shaped case. Definitively avant-garde, the new model amalgamates contemporary materials, colours and finishings, while upholding the de rigueur hand-guilloché flourishes of Voutilainen. Dovetailing the Worldtime case and inverted mechanics of the KV20i, the timepiece stands out with a cushion-shaped titanium case reminiscent of the TP1 pocket watch, a creation of Kari and his daughter, Venla, for the 2019 Only Watch auction. The case—an amalgam of satin-brushed surfaces and polished accents—houses an oversized flat fluted winding crown, lending a nod to the brand’s signature three-hole design. One of the timepiece’s distinguishing features is the mechanics typically hidden on the caseback are now exposed on the dial, creating an illusion of spaciousness and offering a clear view of the inner mechanics. The most captivating sight arguably is the large 13.5mm free-sprung balance wheel with rose gold timing weights, accompanied by two blued escape wheels. On the rear, the watch reveals a striking cherry-red hand-guilloché ring with a screwed plaque bearing the model name and number. The watch is powered by a manual-winding calibre with a low 18,00vph frequency, but a robust 60-hour power reserve.
