Montblanc Fuses Artistry and Mechanical Brilliance in a dashing Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Versailles

Published: 03 Oct 2025
Montblanc, known for their masterful mix of métiers d’art and mechanical innovation, unveil their grandest creation - the Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Versailles.

Montblanc underlines its prowess in marrying métiers d’art and mechanical innovation with yet another dazzling creation, the Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Versailles. Since the launch of Exo Tourbillon in 2010, Montblanc has been creating iterations of this patented construction where the balance wheel is positioned outside and above the tourbillon cage. Each edition has seen the fusion of this unique mechanism with artistic themes drawn from European cultural heritage.

Their latest model pays tribute to one of France’s most historic courtly gatherings, the Yew Tree Ball of 1745 or Bal des Ifs. The event, lavishly held in the Hall of Mirrors at the iconic Versailles, serves as the backdrop of the opulent design, encapsulated within a 44.8mm 18k yellow gold case. More than a precious timepiece, the case serves as a masterpiece of traditional engraving, depicting rich heritage and captivating stories.

The antique-esque dial, carefully fabricated with layers of craftsmanship, reconstructs the Hall of Mirrors on the fateful night of the masquerade. The time display pays homage to clocks during Louis XIV’s reign with the striking use of champlevé enamel for a white dial with Roman numerals. The depiction of an Apollo head, prominent in the centre, is derived from a three-dimensional digital scan of the Salon de Vénus at Versailles, miniaturised and laser-engraved, invoking the radiance of the Sun King’s emblem.
