Seiko Honours Datsun 240Z with Trio of Limited Edition Speedtimers Release

Published: 04 Aug 2025
Seiko crystallises the deep-rooted connection between horology and automotive with their newest limited edition Speedtimers, paying homage to the famed Datsun 240Z.

Seiko’s limited edition commemorates the enduring bond marked by the race track, honouring the Datsun 240Z—a move unanticipated by many. The integral relationship, however, runs deeper than their shared Japanese origin—it reflects in their common history of sponsoring several victorious rally cars, like the 1971 East African Safari Rally-winning Datsun 240Z, driven by pilot Edgar Herrmann and co-pilot Hans Schuller. Seiko’s involvement in these vintage racing ventures have woven a rich, intricate tapestry of timekeeping and automotive prowess, justifying this inspirational watch collection.

The SPB517, restricted to 2,500 individually numbered pieces, is not the only wrist-wear marvel slated for release. Seiko has also announced two general-production models, SPB513 and SPB515, that offer more subtle colour alternatives and affordability. Scheduled for launch in September, these timepieces bridge the gap between horological and automotive legacies, upholding Seiko’s commitment to precision and design.
