Rolex Quantum SA: A New Entity Revolutionising Time Measurement with Atomic Precision

Published: 25 Jul 2025
Pioneering watchmaker Rolex embarks on a cutting-edge horological journey, stepping into the 'Quantum Era' with Rolex Quantum SA.

Rolex SA, the illustrious Swiss watchmaker known for its precision and reliability, has taken a significant leap towards the future. The company has begun an impressive odyssey into the realm of quantum precision, with the establishment of Rolex Quantum SA. Formed in collaboration with the Swiss Center for Electronics and Micotechnology (CSEM) in May 2025, Rolex Quantum SA aims to pioneer a new era of atomic timekeeping with its strategic base of operations adjoining the historic Neuchâtel Observatory. Notable contributions to the Swiss Quantum Days in Arosa, Switzerland, underline a promising start.

The term ‘quantum’ refers to the smallest discrete unit of any physical property, central to quantum mechanics – the study of matter and energy behavior at atomic and subatomic levels. Analogous to the principles of quantum physics and quantum computing, this concept is now being utilized to advance time measurement standards.

Though Rolex Quantum SA isn’t directly involved in watchmaking, its potential influence on the industry is monumental. Ongoing advancements have the potential to revolutionize watchmaking precision testing, improve GPS signal accuracy, and optimize synchronization of global telecommunication networks. Moreover, a potential alliance with the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) could further bolster international timekeeping systems, proving that Rolex is harnessing the power of atomic time to a new level of exquisite precision.
