Futuristic Chronometry with Block RG's Stealth Tourbillon: A Timekeeping Revolution
Block RG, an emerging indie watch brand, has made their enthralling debut with the release of the Stealth Tourbillon watch, a luxury timepiece testament to groundbreaking, unconventional, and mechanical watchmaking. The brand, brought into existence by watch expert and entrepreneur Romas Gimbutis, is at the pioneering front of horological innovation.
Their inaugural timepiece model, the Block RG Stealth was created under the creative purview of Fabrice Gonet and Olivier Leu from Edge Design in Lausanne. The design features aggressive and angular aesthetics evoking visuals of stealth aircrafts like the F-117 Nighthawk.
Block RG Strict prioritises radical and experimental design principles extending even to the foundations of the timepiece. The Stealth model’s distinct geometry is comprised of flat surfaces, exposed via multiple sapphire crystals, providing an entrancing view of its architectural skeletonised movement.
Under its geometric façade, the Stealth wears a skeletonised tourbillon movement, powered manually. Its captivating architecture, created in collaboration with Telos, individualises each component with a mix of materials and textures, supported by black PVD bridges and a mainplate forming the basis of the symmetrical design layout. The openworked barrel at the 12 o’clock mark coexists with a power reserve indication on a sapphire dial. The generously proportioned tourbillon (15.80mm) features at 6 o’clock, performing a captivating dance. A sapphire-made second track syncs with the gear train, making the flow of time visibly compelling.
Rotating once every minute, the tourbillon pulses at an impressive 4Hz, accommodating the watch’s notable 4-day power reserve. Crafted from titanium, the tourbillon weighing a scant 0.50g is made from thirty-seven components, boasting the timepiece’s sophisticated engineering ethos.
