IWC launches its limited-edition masterpiece of 2025, the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph, featuring an obsidian-colored dial.

Luxury watchmaker IWC recently unveiled its latest release for 2025 - a limited edition of the iconic Portugieser timepiece, equipped with a tourbillon, flyback chronograph, and retrograde date display. This beautiful piece, the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph (ref. IW394009), features an obsidian-colored dial encased in the brand’s proprietary 18k Armor Gold alloy, and will be produced exclusively in a series of 100 pieces.

This unique timepiece fuses the design elements of the original pair of Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronographs launched in 2020 with the Armor Gold and Obsidian color theme recently seen in the collection. It is wrapped in a 43.5mm Armor Gold case, expected to be more durable and wear-resistant than traditional gold alloys, accompanied by 22mm lugs complemented with a black alligator leather strap and Armor Gold folding clasp.

Underneath its striking exterior, this new Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph model houses the brand’s in-house Caliber 89900 automatic movement, consisting of 375 individual parts and powered by a 68-hour reserve. The movement features a rose gold finish, offering consistency with its 18k 5N gold rotor and Armor Gold case, setting off an additional spark of visual allure. With this timepiece, IWC has not only presented a masterstroke in horology but has also produced an article of wearable art.
