Exploring Glashütte Original's New Groundbreaking Dial-Making Facility: A Harmonious Fusion of Past and Future

Published: 03 Jul 2025
Glashütte Original, the esteemed German watchmaker, offers a glimpse into its novel dial-manufacturing hub, illuminating a balance between traditional techniques and state-of-the-art technology.

Over the last three years, Glashütte Original has quietly been crafting something extraordinary. More than a fresh timepiece design or movement, the German watchmaker has established a state-of-the-art dial-making facility within their namesake Saxon village, which significantly enhances their production capabilities.

This development ensures that over 95% of the parts and components used in crafting their exquisite watches are produced within Glashütte itself. A select group of global journalists were recently offered an exclusive tour of this revolutionary facility. While the watchmaker’s Headquarters has been designed to accommodate visitors, access to this latest facility will be limited in the future, retaining an air of mystery and exclusivity around the intricate dial-making process.

In the grand finale of dial creation, a rigorous procedure of plating, enamelling, stripping and finishing results in the beautiful two-toned movement decoration that characterizes Glashütte’s timepieces. Moreover, a dedicated team of artisans work meticulously on decorating and finishing small component surfaces, adding those intricate details that make Glashütte Original stand apart.

To commemorate the opening of this facility and mark the 180th year of watchmaking in the town, Glashütte has launched a new limited edition PanoLunarTourbillon. It features an alluring ‘Galvanic Rose’ dial that references the rusty red hue of the iron deposits found in the surrounding Ore Mountain Range. This stunning timepiece, limited to only 50 pieces, perfectly encapsulates the dedication, skill, and commitment that defines Glashütte Original.
