Bovet 19Thirty: Reviving Swiss Elegance with a Modern Update to Celebrate Ten-Year Milestone
Honoring its tenth anniversary, the Bovet 19Thirty collection receives a modern, minimalist makeover. Bovet, a historic Swiss brand founded in 1822 and elevated by Pascal Raffy in 2001, is revered for its high-end complications and intricate artistic detailing. Amid the brand’s array of complicated models, the 19Thirty stands out with its unique case design and simplicity, making these watches the go-to ‘everyday’ accessory in Bovet’s universe.
The 19Thirty name is a tribute to the final pocket watches that the brand produced in the 1930s before the wristwatch trend took hold. The collection draws inspiration from a 1930s Bovet Frères pocket watch, known for its dial top bow and crown, as well as a convertible stand on the caseback, allowing it to serve both as a pocket watch and a table clock.
But where this new collection takes a significant turn, and reveals its modernist soul, is in its dial design. The elegant ‘figure-eight’ display of prior 19Thirty editions, featuring hours in the larger counter intersected by the small seconds at 6 o’clock, has given way to a more minimalist design. The lavish sub-dials, hand-decorated with guilloché and surrounded by engraved Fleurisanne motifs, are replaced with monochrome lacquered dial colours, offering a serene backdrop for the time indications.
