Laurent Ferrier Unveils Sport Auto 79 in Red Gold, Rekindling Memories of A Legendary Race

Published: 03 Jun 2025
From the illustrious house of Laurent Ferrier comes a grand celebration of motorsports history, the Sport Auto 79, now in an exquisite red gold edition.

The luxurious world of horology witnesses another gem with the Laurent Ferrier Sport Auto 79, now splendidly adorned in 18k red gold. This release not only marks the 15th anniversary of the renowned brand Laurent Ferrier but also serves as an eloquent symbol of its very essence, born out of a fervor for motorsport. Before the emergence of the Sport Auto in 2022, Laurent Ferrier had made their foray into the realm of elegant sports watches with the Grand Sport, a high-end model with a tourbillon. However, it was the Sport Auto that made a more profound mark, entering the revered category with a classic time-and-date movement, a lightweight, titanium case, and refined proportions.

Up until now, the Laurent Ferrier Sport Auto comprised two editions, both made in titanium—one a classic blue dial edition from its permanent collection, and the other, a more limited lush green Sport Auto 40. But now, a third version joins their league, sculpted entirely from 18k red gold. The elegant sports watch, with an integrated bracelet, measures 41.5mm in diameter and 12.7mm in thickness. Undeniably, this watch amazes with its comfort and unique personality implied by a delightful interplay of rounded curves and sinuous lines. It also flaunts Laurent Ferrier’s signature ball-shaped screw-down crown while the case boasts of water resistance up to 120 meters.

The new Laurent Ferrier Sport Auto 79 is not just an embodiment of luxury with its use of gold, but it also showcases a calm refinement on its dial. The cream-colored dial sports an opaline finish with a powdery texture, a result of a galvanic treatment imparting a rose-silver hue. A perfect pairing with the red gold applied markers and assegai-shaped hands filled with luminescence, presenting a sight of timeless beauty. Decoding this masterpiece, one can observe cues from other editions such as the snailed small seconds, the crosshair in the middle of the dial, and a sloped aperture for the date window at 3 o’clock.
