Delving into the Timeless Appeal of Roger Dubuis’ Hommage La Placide: A Nod to Classic Watchmaking

Roger Dubuis was more than a name; his legacy in the watchmaking world was twofold. To some, he was a talented watchmaker who, in the 1990s, established his independent brand that would later produce highly collectable young-timer timepieces. To others, Roger Dubuis was synonymous with a brand owned by the Richemont Group, known for creating bold, contemporary, high-end watches with a strong focus on architectural movements.

Dubuis was born in 1938 in Corsier-sur-Vevey, near the shores of Lake Geneva, and dedicated his life to watches. His journey as a watchmaker began at Longines in the late 1950s, where he served for 9 years. He then moved back to Geneva to work for Patek Philippe, working on minute repeaters and perpetual calendars.

Eventually, Dubuis met Carlos Dias, who inspired him to establish his own brand. Together, they set up the Société Genevoise des Montres (SOGEM) in 1995, later known as the Roger Dubuis brand.

One of the brand’s iconic creations, the Hommage La Placide Perpetual Calendar, is a remarkable testament to the early days of Roger Dubuis.
