Rolex Unveils Second Historic Account of its Watches, Focusing on the Oyster Perpetual Datejust

Published: 12 Sep 2025
Rolex, in collaboration with author Nicholas Foulkes, has unveiled a second authorised book, Oyster Perpetual Datejust – A Watch that Made History.

Roland, the distinguished luxury watchmaker, marks another milestone in horological historiography with the release of its second authorised book in collaboration with author Nicholas Foulkes. This pioneering endeavour dives into the heritage of one of Rolex’s most emblematic models—the Oyster Perpetual Datejust. Up till now, the iconic watch brand has been rather reticent in publicising its history, making this move an intriguing leap towards engaging more deeply with watch enthusiasts worldwide.

Its previous release, The History of the Oyster Perpetual Submariner Watch, was met with much fanfare, effectively setting the stage for this follow-up. Once again partnered with the publishing prowess of Wallpaper, Rolex and Foulkes are keen to chronicle another fascinating chapter of Rolex’s oeuvre.

Unlike a dry catalogue, Oyster Perpetual Datejust – A Watch that Made History weaves enchanting narratives around the origins of the collection. It harmoniously intersperses tech specs with tales of Rolex Testimonees and the brand’s illustrious partnership with high-calibre athletes and eminent figures in the arts.

The 224-page book, available for pre-order from September 9 and on sale from September 29, comes in English and French versions and is priced at GBP 100 or EUR 125. It will also be available at Official Rolex Retailers worldwide from October and a selection of independent bookshops and retailers.
