Reviving Military Heritage: Dive into the Re-Edition of Benrus Type 2 Mil Spec Watch

Published: 17 Oct 2025
Benrus is pushing out of the shadows with the re-edition of its mid-20th century Type 2 Mil Spec watch, showcasing a focused, resilient design.

Founded in 1921, the New York-based Benrus played a significant role in supplying military watches, historically standing shoulder to shoulder with brands like Hamilton and Bulova. Making a comeback from the shadows, Benrus revisits its military lineage with the re-edition of the Type 2 Mil Spec watch, originally produced in the 1970s. The re-edition of this legendary timepiece is geared to exceed the MIL-W-50717 specifications, a standard set for Navy SEALs and Underwater Demolition Teams.

The stainless steel case adopts a sandblasted matte finish and a disproportionate design, larger on the right side to guard the screw-down crown. The case comes in a detailed 20-minute rotating bezel with a black aluminium insert and a water resistance rating of 365 meters. The double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coatings embraces the dial which is smaller than its 1970s predecessor. The watch comes with a black rubber strap equipped with quick-release levers and a steel pin buckle.

The Type 2 Mil Spec is powered by an ETA 2892 automatic with twenty-one jewels, a beat rate of 28,800vph, and a 42-hour power reserve. Despite the watch’s price-tag, its classical aesthetic blended with modern reliability is set to revive the splendour of Benrus’ timepieces.
