Horological Society of New York Celebrates 160 Years with a Grand Gala, Raises Record Funds of $1.2 Million
A glamorous black-tie event held at The Plaza Hotel served as the backdrop for The Horological Society of New York (HSNY)’s 160th Anniversary Gala, which highlighted the organization’s undeniable commitment to horological education and community support. Over 500 illustrious members of the watchmaking community gathered, with a live charity auction showcasing exceptional timepieces and attracting an unprecedented $1.2 million in funding.
A standout moment came with the presentation of a symbolic $450,000 check to Eliza Kurtz, a student at the Rolex Watchmaking Training Center. The sum represented nearly a threefold increase from the previous year, demonstrating the Society’s commitment to nurturing the future of the watchmaking industry.
At the event, HSNY honored two figures whose contributions to the world of horology have been remarkable. The Howard Fass Award for Lifetime Achievement acknowledged the exceptional contributions of François-Paul Journe, whose innovative mechanisms and support for emerging talent have left an indelible mark on horology. The Centennial Recognition Award was bestowed upon London Jewelers, celebrating a century of tireless dedication to watch and jewelry enthusiasts.
HSNY also took the opportunity to debut a short film celebrating 160 years of horological tradition in New York City. The film served as a testament to the world of watchmaking, a salute to the past, and an inspiring glimpse into the future.
