The Horological Society of New York Celebrates its 160th Year with an Exquisite Gala Affair at The Legendary Plaza Hotel
The Horological Society of New York (HSNY), America’s pioneering watchmaking guild, is zealously preparing to raise the curtain on its 160th anniversary Gala. The celebratory occasion is slated for Saturday, March 21, 2026, and the venue is none other than New York City’s esteemed Plaza Hotel. The festivity promises a black-tie ceremony that embodies HSNY’s everlasting commitment to fostering the artistry and scientific depth of horology.
The gala is set to witness a selection of celebrity co-chairs and industry mavens, all picked for their profound admiration for the art of timekeeping. Among the dignified leaders include Roger W. Smith OBE, Founder of the British brand Roger W. Smith Ltd., distinguished independent watchmaker Danièla Dufour, and actor Ben Ahlers of HBO’s historical drama series ‘The Gilded Age’ which features HSNY.
Between the steeped festivities, HSNY plans an unforgettable live charity auction facilitated by Sotheby’s. The auction lots will be announced early in 2026.
The gala will also pave the way for HSNY’s tripled scholarship funding, introducing a new Independent Watchmaker Grant offering three $50,000 awards, facilitated by a generous grant from the Vogt Foundation.
Following the ceremonial proceedings, the Plaza will host an exclusive after-party, where the celebration continues with music, dance, and a toast to HSNY’s monumental achievement. The grand event is set to attract celebrities, luxury watch brands, veteran auction houses, and HSNY members.
In the words of HSNY Executive Director, Nicholas Manousos, reaching 160 years is a spectacular milestone for the society. The grandeur of HSNY’s 2026 Gala resonates with the essence of the society’s mission to ensure the continuation of watchmaking education. Founded in 1866, HSNY has been a beacon of horological education, preservation, and community. With every passing year, its dedication to the growth of the craft only gets stronger.
