Swiss Brand Traser Breaks New Ground with P99 Iris Limited-Edition Watch - A Fusion of Function and Collector's Appeal

Published: 13 Jul 2025
Traser, known for its military-grade timepieces, ventures into novelty territory with the P99 Iris Limited Edition, boasting a unique iris mechanism and striking luminosity.

Originally known for producing utilitarian watches for military use, Swiss brand Traser finds itself navigating new waters. Intent on satiating a growing clientele of watch collectors and enthusiasts, Traser introduces innovative, feature-rich designs alongside its traditional offerings. The Traser P99 Iris is a perfect exemplification with its compelling integrated iris-style diaphragm mechanism that lets users obscure the dial and hands by twisting the watch’s external bezel.

This limited edition model of just 300 introduces two new technologies: patented iris diaphragm mechanism and ‘Super Powered Trigalight’ tritium tubes. The innovative diaphragm mechanism exhibits similarities to the iris-style antimagnetic caseback on the Ball Engineer II Magneto S watch but is uniquely modified for the Traser P99 Iris. The system, which sits beneath the bezel, slides 16 blades under the crystal to hide the timepiece’s display. It operates without lubrication or maintenance – yet another marvel of engineering.

The case of the Traser P99 Iris is crafted from stainless steel, given a matte black PVD finish, and measures an imposing 46mm in diameter and 16.5mm thick. Despite its noticeable size, the P99 Iris wears more subtly than its dimensions suggest due to its considerable height. The irresistible fusion of functional apparatus, design novelty, and legacy building signals a promising trajectory for Traser’s endeavours. The P99 Iris is not just a watch; it is an epitome of Swiss craftsmanship meeting unique utility.
