The Rolex Milgauss 'Z Blue': An exquisite timepiece designed for professionals exposed to magnetic fields.

Published: 01 May 2026
Designed in 1956, the timeless Rolex Milgauss 'Z Blue' is conceived for engineers and technicians, known for its resistance against magnetic interference.

Originally introduced in 1956, the Rolex Milgauss ‘Z Blue’ is a timepiece that boasts precision and elegance. The watch was designed to cater to the needs of engineers and individuals exposed to high magnetic fields that could potentially disrupt the watch’s accuracy. Built to resist magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss, this is how the timepiece got its name ‘mille’, which means ’thousand’ in French. The Milgauss ‘Z Blue’ showcases a captivating Z blue dial, blended harmoniously with a green sapphire crystal and an electrically charged orange lightning-bolt-shaped second’s hand. A unique feature of the ‘Z Blue’ is its Zirconium alloy dial. The timepiece is housed in a robust 40 mm 904L stainless steel case that also embraces a ferromagnetic alloy shield, an inventive creation patented by Rolex in 1954, protecting the movement inside the case. What sets the Milgauss apart is the use of paramagnetic materials to construct the oscillator and escapement, a standard that has been maintained by Rolex since the turn of the century. These components in particular are crafted with an exceptional attention to detail, making use of innovative micromanufacturing technology. Overcoming magnetic interference, the watch’s heart, the Parachrom hairspring, stands resilient against temperature variations and shock, enhancing the timepiece’s precision factor tenfold. Completing the design, the cushioned case back is securely screwed in, providing up to 100 meters of water resistance thanks to the patented Twinlock system equipped in the crown. For wearer’s comfort, the stainless-steel bracelet is skillfully crafted with a Rolex-patented Easylink rapid extension system, allowing a flexible extension of the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm.
