Louis Vuitton Pays Homage to the Past with the Revival of the Cult-Favourite Monterey Watch
The fashion house of Louis Vuitton isn’t just about haute couture and lavish handbags, its illustrious design heritage extends to the world of horology. The brand’s recent revival of the Monterey is a testimony to its dedication to horological craftsmanship, and a nod to its history. Initially introduced in 1988, the Monterey, Louis Vuitton’s first wristwatch, has transitioned into a cult favourite over the years and is making its return with a modern make-over that still pays homage to its origin.
The present rendition of the Monterey sees a modern reimagination of the classic, with a yellow-gold case, a stylishly stripped-back design, and an in-house LFT MA01.02 automatic movement. It’s a tribute to the original, but also a showcase of Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking prowess today. The stunning white Grand Feu enamel dial takes centre-stage in this design, brought out through a complex process requiring over 20 hours of layering and multiple firings at temperatures up to 900°C. All of these improvements, from simplified aesthetics to an automatic movement, usher in a Monterey that not only pays tribute to a remarkable history but also shines as a contender in its own right in the world of luxury wristwatches.
This limited edition remake, restricted to only 188 pieces, is highly anticipated among horology enthusiasts. As Louis Vuitton meticulously crafts each piece, it amplifies the shared bridge between the brand’s past and its present and strengthens its influence in the world of horology.
