Ride the Wave of Nostalgia with the Revival of Nepro's Solar-Powered, LED Timepiece - The Neprosolar 1976
Entering the world of Horology, there are few innovative icons like Nepro, the Swiss watchmaker based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. With roots tracing back to the late 1950s, Nepro spearheaded gadget-watch making till the mid-1970s. Recently, the brand resurfaced, releasing its first watch under the revived banner, a retro-futuristic, solar-powered quartz creation with an LED display, the Neprosolar. Targeted at collectors while remaining moderately priced, the Neprosolar is a fascinating reincarnation of a similar Nepro concept from the mid-70s.
The 1970s saw the birth of quartz digital watches, a decade after the 1960s introduced electric-powered watches and quartz oscillator-controlled models. These watches initially featured traditional analog dials but swiftly experimented with digital screens. Before the advent of LCD screens, LED displays held the fort, which were arguably more visually pleasing as the diodes emitted light when powered. High power drain was the catch, resolved by displaying time only when activated, typically done by pressing a button on the case.
